Coach Mark Evans

Mark Evans has overseen the Crescenta Valley Distance Program for more than 25 years. With his son Rob moving back to teach English at his alma mater in 2016 and combining forces with his dad -- the two have continued to mold the program into one of the best in California.  Along with a winning culture that always puts the kids first, the primary focus being the student-athletes developing into runners of all distances along with molding themselves into successful young adults.  Mark Evans is as humble and gracious as you will find out there and his sons have embodied those same qualities as well.

Along with son, Rob -- the duo has continuously traveled all over, attending clinics to absorb training techniques from some of the best coaches in the world. Their training methods also directly influenced other top programs throughout the state. He is one of most respected prep coaches in the distance running community. Mark Evans had coached five girls’ teams to the State Cross Country Championships and his past four boys’ squads all qualified to the State Meet.

Coach Rob Evans

Rob started his teaching career in 2004 at Golden Valley High School, returning in 2016 to his alma mater as an English Teacher and Cross Country/Track and Field Coach. Everyday, he feels lucky to coach alongside his dad, Mark, who has been coaching for 6 decades and at CV since the mid 1990’s. Rob was an English major and cross country/track athlete at UC Irvine.

Rob has been coaching cross country/track and field since 2007. From his start at Golden Valley to his time at Crescenta Valley, his greatest moments are watching athletes dream big and work hard. Every athlete can have the satisfaction of working to become their best, and helping them reach that level is what enthusiastically brings him to practice each day.

Rob’s love and passion for teaching and coaching drives him everyday. In the classroom, he shares his appreciation of Irish Literature and James Joyce as often as he can. He loves to travel with his two kids, Ella and Rhyse, and attend their sporting events. In the summer you will find them relaxing in their backyard–shooting hoops, kicking a soccer ball, or hanging out at their pool.
